CIDA publishes 2019 Future Scan

The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) has published its 2019 Future Scan. The 2019 Future Scan is the latest addition to a cadre of scanning activities undertaken by CIDA to forecast changes influencing interior design practice. The most recent 2019 Future Scan is both an update and an overarching executive summary of future trends forecasted from 2016-2018.

The 2019 Future Scan was created in preparation for CIDA’s Future Vision 2020 taking place next year in March. CIDA’s annual forecasting is conducted to both predict and respond to the myriad rapid changes impacting interior design. CIDA’s Board and Standards Committee use results to refine the accreditation standards used to evaluate interior design higher education programs. CIDA’s most recent accreditation standards were revised this past summer and Professional Standards 2020 are being published this fall, with an effective date of July 1, 2020.

“With a rigorous, ongoing approach to trend analysis and forecasting, CIDA has created a process that effectively (and elegantly) navigates the daunting pace of change taking place in our world and profession. CIDA’s continuous process has proven incredibly successful at incrementally evolving future-forward content in CIDA’s accreditation standards. Happily, the Future Scan is also a valuable resource for the design community,” states Jan Johnson, FIIDA, CIDA Board Chair.
