The CIDA Board of Directors Adopts New Standards

The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) Board of Directors adopted new quality standards for interior design higher education programs that prepare graduates for entry into the profession. Hundreds of students graduate from CIDA-accredited programs annually.

Professional Standards 2009 elevate the concepts and professional values deemed most significant for successful entry-level interior designers. Some examples include critical thinking, global context for design, collaboration, and creativity. CIDA standards also encourage a wide variety of educational approaches, supporting diversity and innovation in interior design programs.

"CIDA is proud to partner with education, practice, and industry in introducing the next generation of accreditation standards. The CIDA Standards Committee has done an outstanding job of stewarding the community through a rigorous process of information gathering, analysis, and refinement, leading to strong support for adoption. We are grateful to the many, many individuals and organizations who have participated in and supported this achievement," states Cary Johnson, CIDA Board Chair of Gensler, Chicago.

Visit CIDA's website at www.accredit-id.org/profstandards.php for more information about the recently adopted Professional Standards 2009.

Sponsors of the CIDA standards project include: ASID Foundation; BIFMA; IDC; IIDA; Interior Design Magazine; Haworth; Steelcase; Gensler Chicago; STUDIOS Architecture, Washington DC; and the Heeringa Foundation (Trendway).
